As much as I truly appreciate this post….especially its energy, perhaps I could offer the caveat that, for the majority of alienators, afflicted as they are by their narcissistic visions of themselves, (the alienator in my life, for example), they will remain grossly impaired, unable to see or especially recognize and acknowledge the harm they have caused.

I, too, want to believe that someday the lights will come on for alienators, but, in my own situation, I was one who walked away, and pretty much closed the door after seventeen years of trying. While I wouldn’t, necessarily, recommend that kind of action, I felt the need to do so to protect myself from further emotional and psychological abuse….It feels better, but the loss and grief remain a painful daily burden that I have chosen to carry.

Sometimes, walking away is the only way we can survive, even if it appears to others that we are giving up the fight — we are not. Instead, we go into survival mode and hope our children will one day awaken to the truth.
